Point of Grace Online Worship 6.28.20 Sermon Notes “His Present is His Presence – When I get just what I need!”
Galatians 5 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
PEACE – Shalom – Wellbeing – Salvation – Wholeness The Peace of the Lord
John 14 25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Jesus unplugs our need for Peace (our idea and our experience) from life’s circumstances and plugs us into Him as the source of Peace.
John 15 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 16 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
The framework for understanding our circumstances as being the source of our PEACE is something that comes very naturally.
Galatians 5 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is … … …
Philippians 4 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Our role is not to produce peace but receive the presence of Jesus by His Spirit and act like He and His promises are real.
What might that look like?
Philippians 4 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Our Role: Turn our anxieties into prayers saturated with thanksgiving.
God’s Role: Peace of divine origin is given that will “guard” our heart and mind!
Philippians 4:6-7 (The Message) Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
Matthew 6 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink;… 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Come Holy Spirit. Fill me afresh. I Surrender myself and my agenda and - I get to turn my anxieties and concerns into prayers and open myself up to Jesus and His care for me. I Receive You and Your agenda for and - I receive peace … the care and wellbeing of my Father in heaven. I will Act like it! - I get to allow myself to be at peace as this fruit grows! I do not have to be addicted to anxiety.

A new resource recommended last week which I again encourage this week is:
Daily Scripture Readings for this Week: Mon – John 14:15-27 Tues – John 16:29-33 Wed – Philippians 4:4-9 Thu – Matthew 6:25-34 Fri – Romans 12:7-13 Sat - Psalm 34:1-14
Solitude – Spend TWO minutes quietly alone. Take some deep breaths… Just be… “Holy Spirit, speak to me through Your Word! I rest in You!”
Scripture – Read the scripture slowly, out loud if possible, listen, reread, dwell, notice words & phrases you are drawn to & return there! Reflect on what you are noticing and where He is leading your thoughts.
Prayer – Have a conversation with God, “What are You saying to me, God?” Talk about what you notice is on your heart. Begin to own the “word of God” being revealed to you.
Finish - Spend TWO minutes again with God, resting and listening and being loved.
