SERMON NOTES:
The Ascension of Jesus – Why is it important?
Philippians 2 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
The Ascension completes Christ’s victory over that which we are powerless against.
Sin (Crucifixion), Death (Resurrection), Evil (Ascension)!
The Ascension enthroned Jesus in the position of absolute power and authority over all things and He wants us to know it!
Ephesians 1 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
It is like Jesus is saying, “Church, please act like I won! In Me you are victors not victims!”
What would it look like for me to live in the fullness of Jesus’ victory and power?
SOLITUDE, SCRIPTURE, PRAYER - GUIDE:
Find a quiet place and 15 minutes.
Solitude – Spend several minutes quietly alone. Take some deep breaths… Just be… … …Ask, “Holy Spirit, speak to me through your Word!”
Scripture – Read slowly, out loud if possible, listen, reread, dwell, notice words & phrases you are drawn to & return there! (Sermon notes may help with understanding, but don’t stop there.)
Keep asking, “Jesus, what are You saying? Why this word this day?
What are You asking me to believe about You and about me? How am I learning to Live Loved?
How do I join You today on Your mission and in my transformation?”
Prayer – Let your conversation with God flow from what He is saying then talk about what you notice is on your heart and also on your list.
