Welcome to the POG Blog! The scripture for today is from John 1!

⁹ The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. ¹⁰ He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. ¹¹ He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. ¹² Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— ¹³ children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

¹⁴ The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I am finding that this light vs. dark metaphor that God uses in scripture is very helpful to me! I liked it in Star Wars too!  This metaphor was the basis of the whole movie!

 This is a powerful section using that metaphor!  A couple of things caught my attention!

1) This true light can be missed!  God's light can be missed!  I can miss the light as God tries to fill me with His light to give me direction, help me work through an issue, give me peace, hope, strength!  Fact is, I can miss the light!  I don't want to miss the light!  I get to live by faith, open myself to the light, anticipate God will bring light into my life and do things like pray and worship to intentionally absorb the light!

2) I noticed also that in receiving Jesus as the light a whole world of hope and life opens up.  I get to be a child of God and act like it.  I get to be the result of a miraculous work of God being literally "born of God!"

3)  The third thing is really cool - and so refreshing to me today!  The Light became flesh.  The concept (light) became personal (flesh) in Jesus.  It is one thing to be impressed by a neat concept or metaphor that leaves you saying "thats cool" - it is quite another thing to have that conept become reality - flesh and blood reality - in a person that I can relate to, love, be loved by, talk to, listend to...!  The Light became flesh!  And I am personally connected to the Light! WOW!  That will change a person's day!
