⁹ “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.¹⁰ For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

¹¹ “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? ¹² Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? ¹³ If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

In Sunday’s message we learned that it is critical not only to be in relationship with God, but to have fellowship with Him daily.  These verses from Luke speak of ‘fellowship’.  Fellowship involves asking, seeking and knocking.  Fellowship is about coming to God in the same way children come to their father: excited when Dad returns home after a long day at work, asking for the keys to the car, calling home from college seeking advice about a particular situation, etc.  All of these are things children do when they are in fellowship with their father.

Jesus goes further, as Luke records in vv. 11 – 13.  He gives us some imagery of what it looks like for a father to be in fellowship with his son.  Although no earthly father is perfect, fathers provide food, clothing, and shelter for their children.  They do these things because of their love for their children.  How much more will our Heavenly Father do for us?

Take a minute to think of all the ways your Father provides and cares for you.  The relationship is there – He is your Father!  Pray God will send his Holy Spirit to you so that you will experience today the joy of being in Fellowship with God.
